Automated E-Service January 14, 2013!
E-service has been in effect about a month, and has been working in the “manual” mode. That is, there have been email addresses available for you to use to email pleadings and other documents. On January 14, 2013 the OJCC e-filing platform, E-JCC, will begin offering you a more streamlined and efficient process.
You are familiar with e-served orders and notices from our OJCC offices. Currently, when our district staff uploads an order or notice, you receive an email with a link to that document.
When the new e-JCC platform is unveiled next week, you will be prompted to select recipients for service after the upload process. Essentially, you will proceed with e-filing as you have in the past. However, immediately after that upload/filing process, e-JCC will allow you to email notice (service) of this pleading to counsel and parties in the case. You may select from the email recipients suggested by e-JCC, and may add others to the list.
When you file, that email message(s) will be sent as you instructed, providing the recipient(s) with a link similar to the one received when the OJCC sends uploads an order.
The recipient will be able to open that PDF document and save it on their computer or in their case management system just like any other PDF. After a recipient has clicked the link and viewed the document, you may see the time stamp on the service list on the e-JCC docket.
This change is going to save a huge amount of money compared to the postal service. Using the 2012 figures for volume, we estimate about $1 million dollars in total savings annually from the combination of e-service and e-filing. The changes to e-JCC are coming Monday, January 14, 2013.
